Mission: help (re)build a global scientific and engineering community powered by Fortran.

FortranFuture, a new EPSRC-funded Network+ led by Queen’s University Belfast with the University of Southampton, is recruiting an Ecosystem Lead at Senior Research Fellow level. This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) post based in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen’s.

About the role

Fortran continues to underpin critical codes across science and engineering, from weather and climate to nuclear and materials modelling. The Ecosystem Lead will drive the work of building a global ecosystem around the language and its community, including:

  • Building a sustainable community and research network that will last beyond the funded period of the project
  • Forecasting possible futures for the Fortran ecosystem and roadmapping the opportunities and challenges ahead
  • Contributing to the strategic oversight and allocation of the network’s flexible funding, and helping to secure future funding

The team is open-minded about who they recruit, whether that is someone more technical, someone more community-oriented, or someone in between. They are also open to remote working.
