✨ Ask everyone for adjustments by default
Normalise adjustments early in processes so participation needs are expected, not exceptions.
💬 Accessible participation options
Offer different ways to contribute, such as written input or async feedback to prevent forcing people from speaking up in large groups.
✨ Hybrid is hard - but important!
People are reluctant about hybrid events as they mean additional work, and sometimes costs. But people might not be able to travel to an event because of caring responsibilities, disabilities, visa requirements and all kinds of other reasons. For them, it is a choice between "hybrid or not at all". Make sure not to lose them!
📚 Language matters
Always explain acronyms, maybe keeping a shared glossary. Then everyone can follow along without having to ask about being included.
📝 Personas and User Stories
In software engineering, personas and user stories are used to make sure software meets the requirements for the target user group. Use this idea when planning an event, plan your recruitment process, etc. Create a couple of personas and situations for people with accessibility or other needs, and from underrespresented backgrounds, and check your plans against those!
